The Lonesome Spectacular!
A CIRCUS-ISH SHOW ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS
HUDSON - MINNEAPOLIS - DUNDAS - VIROQUA - MADISON - MILWAUKEE - CHICAGO - FENNVILLE - ANN ARBOR - DETROIT
In Summer 2022, the Fox & Beggar Theater presented its seventh theatrical production, "The LONESOME SPECTACULAR!"; an original circus show about happiness, sadness, and the moon.
The devised show was co-created at Tamarack Land Co-op in Hovland, MN by an ensemble of twelve clowns, circus artists, musicians, and puppeteers. In June, the show toured from Minnesota to Michigan, performing a series of free and all-ages shows atop the Gonzago.
The ringmaster of an impoverished circus troupe hatches a plan to steal the loneliest creature in the universe -- the moon -- and sell it as a for-profit carnival attraction. The new act is a big hit, pulling hordes of ticket-buyers into private and addictive worlds of melancholia. But as the moon's sad wonders get greedily consumed, it begins to shrink.
Soon, members of the circus troupe begin sneaking in one-by-one to see the moon's psychedelic visions of dejection and solipsism. Finally-- the moon shrunk down to the size of a bowling ball-- a brave clown decides it is time to put it back in the night sky.
